Example of a Level 3 Bite

This is an example of a level 3 bite. The bite was from a small dog that jumped up and grabbed the individual’s leg. The vertical lacerations were caused by gravity as the dog began to fall off the person. Even though the lacerations were caused by gravity it also indicates that the dog didn’t immediately let go. Even a small dog that jumps up to bite someone, can bite and let go which would reduce the chances of gravity-induced lacerations.

You can clearly see 4 punctures or almost punctures. They are not deeper than 50% of the dog’s canine tooth, they barely break the skin. There are also some scratches in the middle of this bite from the dogs front teeth. The photo was taken immediately after the bite happened so it’s a bit early for bruising.
